Finance Assistant - AP
4 days per week in The City, London (1 day remote)
£33,000 – £40,000 per annum (depending on experience)

We have partnered with a growing construction company seeking an experienced and detail-driven Finance Assistant to take full ownership of our AP function. This is a hands-on role that involves managing all supplier and subcontractor payments, ensuring compliance with VAT and CIS regulations, and supporting the wider finance team.
This position is best suited to someone with solid AP experience, who is confident managing payment processes end-to-end and understands the complexities of subcontractor compliance, whilst having the personality to suit a busy, friendly and dynamic culture.
Key Responsibilities
*Oversee the full Accounts Payable cycle for suppliers and subcontractors
*Review, code, and approve supplier and subcontractor invoices
*Ensure correct VAT treatment, including reverse charge VAT and CIS considerations
*Prepare and execute weekly payment runs
*Process staff expenses and company credit card transactions
*Verify and process timesheets accurately
*Maintain and reconcile purchase ledger and subcontractor accounts
*Reconcile statements and proactively resolve supplier and subcontractor queries
*Ensure full compliance with UK VAT and Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) regulations
*Collaborate with procurement and project teams to ensure smooth approval workflows
*Assist with audits by providing clear documentation and reconciliations
*Supervise and support a Finance Assistant, ensuring work is completed accurately and on time
Requirements
*Minimum 3 years’ experience in a hands-on Accounts Payable role
*Experience in the construction industry or handling subcontractor payments desired, but not essential
*Strong understanding of UK VAT rules, especially reverse charge VAT desired, but not essential
*Knowledge of CIS compliance and deductions desired, but not essential
*Confident supervising or mentoring junior finance team members
*Excellent attention to detail, with strong organisational and reconciliation skills
*Solid Excel skills for reporting and analysis
*Clear and confident communication skills - able to liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams
