Job Description:
About the Role
This is a key role within the Housing Allocations Service, responsible for maximising the supply of suitable and affordable private rented sector (PRS) accommodation for households in housing need. The post holder will support the delivery of the council’s homelessness accommodation strategy and PRS placement policy, helping to increase housing supply, improve property standards, and strengthen tenant support.
Key Responsibilities
*Achieve targets for securing suitable and affordable PRS tenancies to meet housing demand.
*Proactively develop and deliver PRS access schemes, attracting new landlords and increasing housing supply.
*Arrange sustainable PRS placements that meet agreed quality and affordability standards.
*Work collaboratively with Housing Options teams to discharge homelessness duties into the private rented sector in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and Localism Act 2011.
*Provide high-quality advice and support to customers and accommodation providers.
*Maximise value for money through effective operation of PRS access and income-generating schemes.
*Ensure the needs of vulnerable children and adults are identified and supported appropriately.
*Identify and address customers’ equality and support needs.
*Detect and prevent fraud to protect council resources and ensure support is allocated to those in genuine need.
*Support continuous improvement in property standards and tenant outcomes.
Key Skills & Experience (Desirable)
*Experience within Housing, Homelessness, or Private Rented Sector services
*Knowledge of homelessness legislation and PRS placement processes
*Strong negotiation and landlord engagement skills
*Excellent customer service and case management abilities
*Ability to manage a high-volume, target-driven workload
