Job Description:
Caretaker - Permanent Position
*Location: Ashburton, Devon
*Salary: £13.90 - £14.82 per hour
*Job Type: Part-time (18.5 hours per week, 41 weeks per year) Permanent Position
*Working Times: Negotiable
We are seeking a dedicated Caretaker to support the effective operation of our educational facilities. This role is crucial in maintaining a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for all pupils, staff, and visitors. The Caretaker will be responsible for a variety of maintenance tasks, ensuring health and safety compliance, and overseeing designated cleaning teams.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Act as the primary responsible person for day-to-day maintenance and security of the premises, including emergency call-outs.
*Manage the opening and closing of facilities, setting up for events, and ensuring compliance with hiring conditions.
*Deliver and maintain compliance contracts, keeping accurate records of all activities.
*Conduct continuous inspections of the school for damage or vandalism and undertake minor repairs and general handyman duties.
*Manage and support designated cleaning teams, ensuring all areas meet health and safety standards.
*Engage with all school staff, pupils, parents, and the PTA, promoting the school’s vision and values.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Practical knowledge and experience in trade works, with a focus on maintenance and security.
*Awareness of Health and Safety regulations and the ability to implement these standards effectively.
*Strong communication skills to interact effectively with staff, children, contractors, and parents.
*Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and flexibility.
*GCSEs (level 9-4/A-C) or equivalent educational level; trade qualifications are desirable.
*Experience with compliance software and basic IT skills for record-keeping.
