Management Accountant
Location: Chelmsford
Salary: Up to £35 - £38k
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Management Accountant to join our clients finance team based in Chelmsford.
This is an excellent opportunity for an AAT qualified (or equivalent) professional looking to take ownership of the monthly management accounts process while contributing to wider business improvements and group finance initiatives.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering accurate and timely financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and supporting operational and strategic decision-making across the business.
You will be a motivated and hands-on finance professional who enjoys working collaboratively across departments. You will be comfortable managing competing priorities, identifying process improvements, and contributing to the wider success of the business.
Key Responsibilities
*Preparation and completion of monthly management accounts by WD5
*Management of the month-end close process
*Weekly cash flow forecasting for Group reporting
*Agreement and reconciliation of intercompany balances across the Group
*Maintenance and control of the fixed asset register and leased vehicles
*Review of sales invoices prior to upload into the accounting system
*Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns
*Provide cover for daily bank reconciliations as required
*Introduce and improve finance checklists and procedures alongside the Financial Controller
*Identify and support work-in-progress (WIP) reduction opportunities across the business
*Support the migration to Office 365
*Undertake ad hoc finance projects as required
Additional Responsibilities
*Support colleagues across the finance function with:
*Credit control and assessment of outstanding debtor positions
*Processing purchase invoices through Sage Accounts and Concur
*Work-in-progress reduction initiatives
*Assistance with annual external audits
*Harmonisation of processes across the wider Group alongside the Financial Controller and Finance Director
Qualifications:
*AAT Qualified (or equivalent)
Essential Skills:
*Advanced Excel skills
*Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
*Strong attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines
*Organised, methodical and process-driven
Desirable:
*Experience using Xero (beneficial but not essential)
