Marine, Cargo & Specie Assistant Underwriter

A leading Lloyd’s syndicate is seeking a Marine, Cargo & Specie Assistant Underwriter to join its established underwriting team in London. This is an excellent opportunity for an underwriting support professional looking to take the next step into an underwriting-focused role within a highly regarded and collaborative environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with experienced underwriters, supporting the underwriting of marine, cargo and specie risks while developing technical expertise and gaining increased underwriting responsibility over time.
Key Responsibilities
Support underwriters in the assessment and underwriting of Marine, Cargo & Specie risks
Review submissions, prepare underwriting information and assist with risk analysis
Maintain accurate underwriting files, records and documentation
Assist with new business and renewal processing
Liaise with brokers and internal stakeholders on underwriting queries and documentation
Produce underwriting reports and support portfolio monitoring activities
Ensure contract certainty and compliance with internal and regulatory requirements
Develop technical underwriting knowledge and market awareness
Skills & Experience Required
1-2 years’ experience in an Underwriting Assistant / Underwriting Support role
Exposure to Marine insurance (Cargo, Hull, Liability or Specie experience advantageous)
Experience within the London Market and/or Lloyd’s environment preferred
Strong organisational skills and high attention to detail
Analytical mindset with an interest in underwriting and risk assessment
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Ambition to progress into a long-term underwriting career
