As a Business Development Manager you’ll sit at the intersection of technical expertise and customer need. Your role is to build a deep understanding of the full product portfolio—both existing and new—and translate that knowledge into tailored solutions for customers.
Through technical consultations, product demonstrations, and strong relationship management, you’ll support existing accounts while actively identifying and securing new business opportunities to drive sustainable growth.
You will have needed to come from a Retail background, working with Curtains, Blinds, or Soft Furnishiings.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you’ll balance developing existing customer relationships with driving new business growth. You’ll work closely with customers to understand their markets, challenges, and goals, using your technical knowledge to identify the right solutions and opportunities.
*Manage and develop a portfolio of existing customer accounts, accounting for approximately 20% of weekly activity. Build trusted relationships, develop a strong understanding of each customer’s market and requirements, and identify opportunities for growth.
*Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within target markets.
*Deliver technical consultations, product demonstrations, and tailored solutions to new and existing customers.
*Prepare and present product range proposals and pricing recommendations for internal approval and customer negotiation.
*Track and report on key performance indicators, including conversion rates, revenue performance, and customer acquisition.
*Lead monthly account review meetings with management, providing updates on performance, pipeline activity, and new developments.
*Conduct market and competitor research to inform commercial strategy and customer engagement.
*Collaborate closely with internal teams to support effective account management, continuous improvement, and business growth.
*Maintain accurate customer and product records, supporting CRM onboarding and ongoing data integrity.
*Travel as required to meet customers, attend trade shows, and visit sites across the wider group.
The ideal candidate for this role will be:
*A team player who leads by example, communicates clearly, and maintains high standards of conduct and reliability.
*Commercially minded with numerical skills, including pricing, margins, analysis, and target tracking.
*A confident problem-solver with strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
*Comfortable using Microsoft Office and internal sales systems, with the ability to quickly learn and understand technical product ranges.
