Job Description:
Driver (Passenger Vehicle)/Attendant
*Job Type: Part-time (6 months)
*Location: Bury Council
*Pay Rate £13.00 - £14.00 per hr paye (depending on experience)
*Required License: D1 Driving License
Bury Council is seeking a dedicated Driver (Passenger Vehicle)/Attendant to join our team on a part-time basis for the next 3 months. This role is essential in providing safe and supportive transportation for people with physical and mental disabilities, as well as handling courier service duties as needed. The working hours will be on a split duties system i.e. 7.00am - 11.00am and 14.00pm - 17.30pm Monday to Thursday, and 7.00am - 11.00am and 14.00pm - 17.00pm on Friday, or it could be7.30am - 11.30am and 14.30pm to 18.00pm Monday to Thursday, and 7.30am - 11.30am and 13.30pm - 16.30pm on Friday.
Day-to-Day of the Role:
*Transport wheelchair customers and others with special needs ensuring their safety and comfort.
*Assist customers to and from the vehicle and during transportation, adhering to their individual care plans.
*Provide first aid and handle emergencies when required.
*Maintain clear and accurate records of activities, incidents, and mileage.
*Monitor and report on the condition of the vehicle and safety equipment.
*Work in various weather conditions and adhere to the council’s no smoking policy in all vehicles and buildings.
*Deal with customer queries and report any significant changes in passengers’ needs or behaviours.
*Ensure professional relationships are maintained with colleagues, customers, and the public.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Must hold a valid UK D1 driving license.
*Experience in a similar role, preferably in a healthcare or community service setting.
*Ability to work flexibly and respond to changing service requirements.
*Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to handle challenging behaviour sensitively.
*Must pass/have an enhanced DBS check.
*Training in operating hydraulic passenger lifts and handling special equipment for wheelchair users is preferred.
