Role Overview
The position of Assistant Accountant will support the finance function with our busy commercial screeding business as it embarks on a journey of both domestic & international expansion. The role will involve responsibility across sales ledger, purchase ledger, banking, and month-end processes, working closely with the commercial, purchasing, and operational teams to ensure accurate financial control and timely reporting.
Duties & Responsibilities
*Month-End & Financial Support
*Maintain the fixed asset register, including additions and disposals
*Prepare and post journal entries as required
*Assist with stock pricing and stock-related ledger entries
*Support month-end ledger close and reporting processes
Sales Ledger:
*Liaise with the commercial team to raise accurate sales invoices and support credit approval processes
*Maintain the debtor’s ledger, ensuring accurate allocation between current receivables and retentions
*Monitor aged debt and carry out credit control activities
*Manage debt recovery, escalating issues where appropriate and maintaining strong customer relationships
Purchase Ledger:
*Process purchase invoices accurately and in a timely manner
*Prepare and manage mid-month and month-end payment runs
*Process fortnightly subcontractor payments
*Liaise with commercial and purchasing teams to ensure open purchase orders are closed promptly
*Support month-end close by ensuring purchase ledger accuracy and completeness
*Carry out supplier statement reconciliations as and when necessary
*Ownership of Accounts mailbox
Banking:
*Perform regular bank reconciliations for:
*Current account
*Overdraft facilities
*Intercompany accounts
*Investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented individual with an enabler mindset capable of interacting with all level of stakeholders through-out the operations & commercial functions.
To be considered, you will have:
*Strong practical experience of month-end & transactional finance - sales ledger, purchase ledger, and bank reconciliations
*Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
*Good Excel skills and experience using accounting software
*Construction or contracting sector experience including CIS exposure is highly advantageous
