Based in Greater Manchester
Full-time – 37 hours per week
Car User Allowance payable
Pay rate: £16.35 – £17.84 per hour
Some work will be outside standard office hours
About the RoleWe are seeking a dedicated Personal Adviser to support children in care and care leavers, helping them achieve positive outcomes and transition confidently into adulthood. You’ll be part of a supportive safeguarding team, providing direct practical and emotional support to young people, families and carers.
This is a highly rewarding role focused on empowerment, participation and independence.
Key ResponsibilitiesSupport care & pathway planning*Visit children in placements
*Provide practical and emotional support
*Undertake life story work
*Deliver planned programmes of work
*Support reunification with families
*Contribute to assessments and reviews
*Assist young people transitioning into education or training
Prepare young people for adulthood*Fulfil statutory Personal Adviser duties
*Provide impartial advice around education, training, accommodation & life skills
*Contribute to needs assessments & pathway planning
*Encourage independence and self-care
*Promote engagement in employment, education and training
Support care leavers towards independence*Act as case manager for young people up to age 21 (or 25 if in full-time education)
*Maintain regular contact with care leavers
*Update and review pathway plans
*Provide emotional, practical and financial support
*Liaise with Adult Services, Mental Health, Substance Misuse, Probation & Housing
*Secure appropriate accommodation where needed
*Ensure young people access entitlements and opportunities
Promote young people’s participation*Deliver group work sessions
*Help develop social, leisure and learning opportunities
*Support participation forums for young people
*Advocate on behalf of young people and families
Case management & professional duties*Maintain accurate case records
*Prepare reports for meetings, conferences and reviews
*Work within safeguarding policies, procedures & legislation
*Participate in multi-agency planning
*Attend supervision, team meetings and training
RequirementsEssential NVQ Level 3 in Childcare (or equivalent)
Significant professional experience working with children or adolescents
Strong verbal & written communication skills
Understanding of equality, diversity & anti-oppressive practice
Ability to build effective relationships with young people & professionals
Ability to de-escalate conflict and support young people in distress
Knowledge of child development & safeguarding
Ability to follow policies, procedures & legal frameworks
Willingness to work outside standard hours
Desirable Knowledge of issues affecting children looked after
Experience delivering group work
