Mechanical CAD Technician
Location: Office-based (with occasional site visits)
Salary: £25,000 – £35,000 DOE
Employment Type: Full-time
Our client are a specialist steam and process engineering company delivering design, installation, maintenance and consultancy services to clients across the UK. Their in-house design and CAD team is central to ensuring we deliver safe, efficient and compliant engineering solutions—and they are now looking to add a Mechanical CAD Technician to their growing team.
Role Overview
As a Mechanical CAD Technician, you will produce accurate, high-quality mechanical and pipework drawings to support projects from early design stages through to installation and completion. You will work closely with engineers, project teams and site personnel to ensure all drawings are consistent, detailed and compliant with standards.
Key Responsibilities
*Produce detailed 2D CAD drawings for mechanical and pipework systems
*Create isometric and fabrication drawings for installation teams
*Develop layouts for steam, condensate and process systems
*Support engineers with design development and technical detailing
*Update drawings following surveys and as-built information
*Maintain drawing registers, revision control and document management
*Ensure all drawings meet relevant standards, specifications and company procedures
Working Relationships
*Collaborate closely with Project Engineers and Site Engineers
*Liaise with fabrication and installation teams to resolve technical queries
*Support communication between the design office and site delivery teams
Essential Requirements
*Experience using AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software
*Background in mechanical engineering or building services
*Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
*Strong accuracy and attention to detail
*Well organised with the ability to manage workloads and deadlines
Desirable Skills & Experience
*Experience with pipework or steam system drawings
*HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering
*Experience producing isometric drawings
*Revit or 3D CAD experience
