Lifting Engineer

Job Description:
We’re looking for a Lifting Engineer with practical experience and a keen eye for quality.
You’ll need to be competent in building steel components and small structures (lifting frames and handling rigs) and can also perform lifting inspections (LEEA training would be provided if required).


*Carry out local deliveries and urgent jobs using the company flatbed van, alongside regular weekly collections from local suppliers.
*Check in profiled plates and all incoming deliveries, report shortages or issues, and store items by job number.
*Conduct on-site and in-house inspections and repairs of loose lifting equipment in line with LEEA requirements.
*Assemble, inspect and certify chain slings and loose lifting tackle, allocating serial numbers and completing required documentation.
*Gather components and assemble manufactured equipment, including frameworks, beams, brackets, bearings and machined parts.
*Fit and connect hydraulic systems and complete basic electrical connections (e.g. motor to pre-wired panel).
*Install and assemble moving components such as motors, gearboxes, lead screws and rack & pinions.
*Carry out functionality testing and inspections, producing reports to certify equipment to LEEA standards.
*Perform load testing on manufactured and third-party equipment, supporting the use of in-house test rigs.
*Assist with site installation and commissioning of equipment, including bolting to concrete structures and completing load tests where required.
*Operate forklift trucks (training provided) and manage loading and unloading of vehicles.
*Produce and apply serial plates and WLL stickers, complete final visual inspections, minor paint touch-ups, wrapping and packing for dispatch.
*Prepare hire equipment for dispatch, including inspection, assembly where required, and completion of LEEA paperwork.
*Read and interpret engineering drawings to ensure accurate assembly and verification of working load limits and equipment weight.
*Carry out minor rectification work during assembly (e.g. re-drilling, tapping, deburring and grinding).
*Monitor stock levels of chain components and shackles, notifying the office when replenishment is required.
