Job Description:
Reed Finance are assisting a growing SME to find an experienced, skilled and people focused Finance Manager to oversee daily financial operations and support the Directors through accurate reporting, forecasting and strong financial control. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys leading a small team, taking ownership of month end processes and ensuring reliable financial information across the business.
You will work closely with the Directors to provide clear updates on business performance while guiding and developing a small finance team responsible for transactional processing. The role spans monthly P&L production, forecasting, stock oversight, WIP reporting and ensuring smooth day-to-day finance operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Month-End Duties
*Prepare monthly P&L, balance sheet reconciliations and management reports for the Directors.
*Maintain up-to-date forecasts, revising regularly based on trading activity and financial trends.
*Support budget monitoring, variance analysis and ongoing performance tracking.
*Ensure month end routines are completed accurately and to deadline.
Operational Finance
*Manage the workflow and performance of the transactional finance team.
*Ensure robust processes are followed for invoicing, payments, reconciliations and cash management.
*Strengthen internal controls, ensuring finance operations run efficiently and consistently.
*Maintain good relationships with suppliers, customers and external stakeholders through effective oversight of the team.
*Oversee payroll delivery, ensuring accuracy and compliance without undertaking payroll processing yourself.
Stock, Costing & WIP
*Oversee stock reporting, ensuring accurate tracking, valuation and periodic checks.
*Support and review stock audits, helping refine processes where needed.
*Monitor WIP figures, ensuring correct costing and timely reporting.
*Work closely with operational teams to improve visibility of project/job financials.
Business Support
*Provide Directors with clear, consistent updates on financial performance and key issues.
*Support decision making with accurate financial insights and cost analysis.
*Identify opportunities to improve processes, accuracy and financial clarity across the business.
Requirements
*Experience in a finance role within an SME, ideally with full month end responsibility.
*Strong ability to prepare management accounts, forecasts, reconciliations and financial reports.
*Proven experience supervising or mentoring finance team members.
*Good systems knowledge and confident using Excel.
*Understanding of stock control processes and WIP reporting.
*Strong communication skills, with the ability to work closely with Directors and non finance staff.
*Organised, proactive and comfortable managing a varied SME workload.
