Housing Resolutions Officer – Local Authority | Wembley
Pay: £21.41 per hour (PAYE)
Contract: Up to 6 months (with strong potential for extension)
Location: Wembley - hybrid
Start: ASAP
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and customer-focused Housing Resolutions Officer to join a Local Authority team based in Wembley. This role is vital in supporting households living in temporary accommodation, ensuring they receive high-quality housing advice, timely move-on support, and safe, suitable housing options in line with legislation.
You will work closely with residents, accommodation providers, internal teams and external partners to promote sustained tenancy solutions, resolve complex housing issues, and uphold statutory duties relating to homelessness and temporary accommodation.
Key Responsibilities
Housing Advice & Move-On Support
*Provide tailored housing options advice to households in temporary accommodation.
*Promote effective move-on to longer-term housing including private rented, intermediate and social housing.
*Monitor bidding activity and support households with applying for available housing options.
*Ensure offers of accommodation comply with legislation and Suitability Orders, issuing relevant letters and documentation.
Casework, Reviews & Investigations
*Conduct suitability reviews and consider appeals/legal representations in line with statutory requirements.
*Investigate reports of domestic violence or fear of violence and take appropriate safety-focused action.
*Determine the Council’s discharge of duty where temporary accommodation is refused.
Tenancy Management & Enforcement
*Support households to comply with licence or tenancy conditions.
*Escalate and take enforcement action where there are serious breaches such as ASB, harassment or hate crime.
*Undertake tenancy audits, investigate misuse/abandonment, and identify potential fraud or misrepresentation.
Accommodation Standards & Provider Liaison
*Respond to reports of disrepair or infestation, liaising with landlords and providers to ensure remedial action.
*Ensure accommodation is compliant with gas/electrical certifications and that void works and sign-ups are completed promptly.
*Initiate lease renewal preparations 3 months before expiry.
Customer Service & Stakeholder Engagement
*Provide timely responses to enquiries and complaints including those from councillors, MPs, advocates and ombudsman.
*Maintain accurate case records, performance data and written reports.
*Build positive relationships with clients, housing providers, council teams and external agencies.
Safeguarding, Compliance & Standards
*Promote safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults in all interactions.
*Work within policies on customer care, equalities, data protection and health & safety.
*Contribute to the council’s carbon-neutral 2030 objective by embedding sustainability in daily duties.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
*Experience in homelessness, housing needs, temporary accommodation or a similar local authority housing role.
*Strong knowledge of housing legislation including the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, and suitability guidance.
