Job Description:
Head of Design & Technology
Are you a Senior DT looking for the next step?
Or are you a seasoned Head of Department looking for a new adventure?
As Head of Design & Technology, you will provide clear direction across Key Stages 3 and 4 (with scope to extend into Key Stage 5), ensuring the curriculum reflects both academic rigour and practical application. You will play a central role in embedding high standards, driving progress, and preparing students with the skills needed for further education and future careers.
Your role:
* Establishing a clear vision for DT within the academy improvement plan
* Designing a progressive, knowledge-rich curriculum spanning disciplines such as Product Design, Engineering, Food Technology, Graphics, or Resistant Materials
* Coaching and developing teaching staff to secure consistently strong classroom practice
* Maintaining exemplary health and safety standards across workshops and specialist rooms
* Overseeing departmental budgets, resource planning, and long-term development
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* A relevant degree within Design & Technology or a related technical field
* Strong secondary teaching experience within DT
* Secure knowledge of workshop safety and practical subject delivery
* A commitment to high expectations, structured routines, and student achievement
