Time commitment: c. 2-3 days per month
Location: Birmingham (predominantly in person)
Lead with purpose. Shape the future of a values-driven housing and care organisation.
Trident Group is seeking an exceptional Chair of the Board to provide visible, authentic leadership at a pivotal point in our journey. This is a unique opportunity to guide a long-established, socially driven organisation as it continues to strengthen governance, modernise its operations and deepen its impact across the Midlands.
Trident Group brings together a housing association, a registered charity and a commercial subsidiary, delivering homes, care and support services to around 7,000 people across more than 3,400 homes. Our work supports some of the most vulnerable individuals and communities, and our purpose is simple: putting people and communities at the heart of everything we do.
The Role
As Chair, you will lead the Board in setting strategic direction, ensuring strong governance and maintaining a constructive, high-trust relationship with the Executive Team. You will play a central role in shaping Trident’s future, supporting continued improvement following a positive regulatory inspection and helping the organisation balance its social mission with growing commercial ambition.
You will be a visible and engaged leader, investing time to understand our people, services and the lived experiences of those we support, while bringing clarity, challenge and confidence to Board-level decision-making.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a Chair who:
*Demonstrates authentic, values-led leadership and a strong commitment to social purpose
*Has proven experience chairing or leading at Board level, ideally in a complex or regulated environment
*Brings strategic insight and commercial acumen, with the confidence to guide robust decision-making
*Builds strong, respectful relationships with Board members, executives and external stakeholders
*Champions good governance, accountability and continuous improvement
*Shares and lives Trident Group’s values of being trustworthy, collaborative, accountable, people-focused and caring.
Candidates do not need prior housing sector experience, but must demonstrate transferable leadership, governance capability and a genuine commitment to making a meaningful social impact.
Time Commitment & Terms
*Remuneration: £15,500 per annum (taxable, non-pensionable)
*Commitment: Minimum 2-3 days per month, including Board meetings, committee engagement, preparation and regular meetings with the Chief Executive
*Term: Three years, renewable once (maximum six years)
*Location: Meetings are primarily held in person at Trident’s offices in Birmingham
