Job Description:
APPRENTICE BUILDING SURVEYOR
*Diamond & Co • £Competitive, aligned to experience • Hybrid – Home Based / London & South Office
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for an Apprentice Building Surveyor to join Diamond & Co and support the delivery of core surveying services, primarily within the residential sector.
Working under the direction of the Managing Building Surveyor, you will support Chartered and Senior Surveyors while learning the foundations of building surveying through real project exposure, structured guidance and day-to-day mentoring.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone at the start of their career who is looking for a long-term pathway into Building Surveying, including progression into a degree programme and, over time, professional qualification.
ROLE EXPECTATIONS
This role requires strong attention to detail, a willingness to learn and the ability to work professionally as part of a wider team.
You will support site inspections, gather accurate building information, and assist in preparing professional reports including Desktop Reports and FRAEW reports.
You will work closely with Surveyors and Fire Engineers, gaining exposure to both technical surveying and fire safety-related inspection work. Over time, you will take on more responsibility across inspections, reporting and project support.
Diamond & Co operates throughout the UK, therefore a willingness to travel is required to meet client and project objectives.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You’ll be successful in this role if:
*You are reliable, organised and take pride in doing things properly
*You learn quickly and apply feedback positively
*You communicate clearly and professionally in writing and on site
*You are curious about buildings, construction and technical detail
*You contribute to the team and build trust through consistency
*You grow in confidence across inspections and reporting over time
HOW YOU’LL SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME
Most weeks, you’ll be:
*Attending properties to gather clear and accurate building information
*Preparing Desktop Reports using internal systems and research
*Supporting FRAEW inspections and assisting with report preparation alongside Fire Engineers
*Supporting Chartered Surveyors with inspections and professional reports
*Assisting with defect reporting and planned maintenance reporting (including budgets)
*Supporting project delivery, including contractor liaison and progress updates
*Attending sites to observe works and support compliance inspections (where required)
*Contributing to training and wider business initiatives
WHO THIS ROLE IS FOR
This role suits someone who:
*Wants to build a long-term career in Building Surveying
*Enjoys problem-solving, buildings and technical detail
*Is organised, detail-focused and eager to learn
*Communicates clearly and professionally
*Is comfortable travelling to sites and working in different environments
*Can work remotely while staying engaged with a wider team
*Holds a full UK driving licence
It would be advantageous if you also have:
*Any experience in property, surveying, construction or consultancy
*Site-based work experience (even short placements)
*AutoCAD capability
*Strong IT skills across Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
QUALIFICATIONS
*Essential: Qualifications that enable enrolment on a Building Surveying degree programme (for example A-levels, BTEC, T Level or equivalent)
*Desirable: Construction-related qualifications
