Job Description:
Macildowie are delighted to be supporting a respected public sector organisation in Derbyshire with the appointment of a Financial Accountant. This opportunity is well suited to candidates looking to develop their career within public sector finance, including those stepping up into a broader financial accounting role or moving across from the wider public sector or professional practice.
Reporting to the Head of Finance, the role will support the delivery of a high-quality financial accounting service. The successful candidate will be involved in year-end accounts, financial reporting and budget monitoring, with scope to build technical knowledge over time through structured support and on-the-job development.
Key responsibilities include:
*Contributing to the preparation of the annual Statement of Accounts, with guidance and support
*Assisting with financial reporting and responding to audit queries
*Supporting revenue and capital budget monitoring and forecasting activities
*Producing clear and accurate financial information to support managers and senior colleagues
*Assisting with pensions-related financial information and statutory returns
*Working collaboratively across finance and the wider organisation to support effective financial management
About you:
*AAT qualified, part-qualified or CCAB studier, or qualified by experience
*Experience within the public sector, wider public services or professional practice
*An interest in financial accounting and public sector finance, rather than extensive prior technical exposure
*Good analytical skills and confidence working with financial data
*Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn
*A genuine desire to develop a long-term career in the public sector
Candidates do not need to have led on closedown or highly technical accounting work previously as the organisation is open to supporting the right individual with training, mentoring and development.
In return, the organisation offers flexible and agile working, a supportive finance team, and a strong commitment to professional development. In addition, an attractive benefit package, including access to the local government pension scheme is on offer.
