Financial Controller – High-Growth E-Commerce SME
Gloucester - 1 day a week in the office - 4 days WFH

Are you a commercially minded Financial Controller who thrives in a fast-paced, scaling business? We’re partnering with an ambitious, high-growth e-commerce SME looking to appoint a hands-on Financial Controller to professionalise finance, drive performance insight, and support the next phase of expansion.
This is a pivotal role reporting directly to the CFO, offering real influence across strategy, systems, and operational performance.
The Opportunity
As Financial Controller, you will take ownership of the finance function during an exciting growth stage. You’ll combine strong technical accounting expertise with commercial insight to support data-driven decision-making in a digital-first environment.
This is ideal for someone who enjoys building structure in a scaling business and wants genuine progression to Head of Finance / Finance Director level.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control & Reporting
*Lead month-end close and produce accurate, timely management accounts
*Deliver insightful KPI reporting (revenue, margin, CAC, LTV, stock turns, cash flow)
*Prepare statutory accounts and manage external audit
*Oversee VAT, tax compliance and regulatory reporting
Commercial & Strategic Support
*Partner with Marketing, Operations and Supply Chain teams
*Analyse customer acquisition costs, channel profitability and product margins
*Support pricing strategy and promotional performance analysis
*Develop rolling forecasts and annual budgeting process
Cash & Working Capital
*Manage cash flow forecasting in a stock-intensive environment
*Optimise inventory funding and working capital cycles
*Build relationships with banks and funding partners
Systems & Process Improvement
*Improve financial controls and internal processes
*Enhance reporting automation and system integrations (ERP / Shopify / Amazon / payment gateways)
*Support ERP upgrades or system implementations
Team Leadership
*Manage and develop a small finance team (e.g. Management Accountant / AP/AR)
*Build scalable processes to support continued growth
About You
*ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (or equivalent)
*Experience in an SME or high-growth environment
*Strong e-commerce, retail, FMCG or stock-based business experience preferred
*Confident with high transaction volumes and multi-channel revenue
*Advanced Excel and experience with modern accounting systems
*Commercially astute with strong communication skills
*Hands-on, adaptable and comfortable in a changing environment
