Job Description:
Senior Plumbing & Heating Engineer
Venn Group is supporting a leading higher-education institution in recruiting an experienced Senior Plumbing & Heating Engineer to help maintain a large and diverse University estate.
Location: Berkshire
Contract: Permanent, 36 hours/week
Salary: total package £42k plus potential additional responsibility payments for specific qualifications and skills.
The Role
You’ll provide expert technical support across plumbing, heating, gas and mechanical systems, delivering both planned and reactive maintenance across multiple campuses. Working independently, you’ll diagnose faults, support safe operation of plant, liaise with contractors, and contribute to continuous improvement of building systems.
Key Responsibilities
*Install, maintain, repair and fault-find on plumbing, heating, gas and mechanical systems.
*Support PPM and reactive tasks, ensuring minimal downtime.
*Assist with statutory inspections and act as Authorised Person where needed.
*Maintain accurate digital records via CAFM.
*Supervise contractors and guide apprentices.
*Uphold safety procedures, risk assessments and statutory compliance.
*Work collaboratively with Estates colleagues and building users.
About You
Essential:
*Strong technical knowledge of plumbing, heating, gas and mechanical plant.
*Ability to diagnose complex faults and work independently.
*Time-served apprenticeship + NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds.
*Good customer service, organisation, and digital skills (tablet/CAFM).
*Understanding of H&S, risk assessments and safe working practices.
*Full UK driving licence and willingness to join on-call rota.
Desirable:
*Gas Safe (Domestic or Commercial), Unvented Hot Water certification.
*IOSH training, broader mechanical/electrical knowledge, BMS familiarity.

*On-call rota approx. 1 in 4/5 weekends + standby & call-out payments.
