Contact: Emily or Sammy – Pearson Whiffin Recruitment
A rapidly growing, highly respected engineering organisation within the commercial & industrial heating / HVAC hire sector is seeking a Specialist Engineer to join their Midlands operation. This is a hands-on, varied and fast-paced role supporting critical customer sites with temporary boiler and heating solutions across the region.
This is NOT a planned maintenance role — we are looking for an engineer who thrives in a reactive, fast-response hire environment, where no two days are the same.
The Role
You will be responsible for installation, commissioning, servicing, fault-finding and breakdown response on commercial temporary heating and boiler systems, both depot-based and on customer sites across the Midlands.
Systems typically range from 600kW to 2MW (Gas & Oil) and include forced draft burner technology and associated control systems.
The role will involve:
* Installation & commissioning of temporary boiler / heating equipment
* Service, maintenance & reactive breakdown response
* Working with forced draft burners & commercial boiler systems
* Fault finding on mechanical, combustion and control systems
* Working with BMS / control wiring
* Modifying plant room pipework and system integration
* Supporting complex installs (occasionally requiring 1–2 nights away)
* Working both on-site and depot-based when not attending jobs
This is a field-focused role with variety, autonomy and responsibility.
What We’re Looking For
* Strong experience with forced draft burners & commercial boiler systems
* Experience working on 600kW – 2MW gas / oil systems
* Background in commercial / industrial — NOT domestic
* Experience in a reactive / hire / breakdown environment (key requirement)
* BMS / controls / combustion understanding
* Strong mechanical fault-finding ability
* Flexible, hands-on and comfortable working in varying conditions
* Team-focused, proactive and safety-driven
You must understand the nature of this role — some days involve long hours, travel, weather exposure and complex installations.
Qualifications
* Commercial Gas Safe
* OFTEC / Oil (desirable)
* F-Gas (advantageous)
* Full UK Driving Licence
(DBS checks may be required for certain sites)
Location
* Based from Redditch depot
* Covering Midlands & surrounding areas
* Company vehicle provided
Salary & Package
£35,000 – £55,000, OTE £70,000 +++++(depending on experience & qualifications)
* Significant overtime & on-call earnings
* Company vehicle
* Training & development pathway
* Private healthcare
* Bonus scheme
* Pension
* 25 days holiday + bank holidays
Further specialist training and qualifications supported.
On-Call & Overtime Structure
* Standard hours: Monday–Friday (Depot or Site)
* Enhanced overtime & out-of-hours pay (up to 2.0x rate)
* Weekend work paid at enhanced rates
* Additional travel time paid when working on site
(Full breakdown available during application)
Why Join?
* Fast-growing engineering organisation
* Highly varied, technically interesting work
* Strong investment in engineers & training
* Supportive, team-focused environment
* Opportunity to become a technical specialist
To apply, please submit your CV including full employment history (months & years) and any gaps explained. Background checks will apply.
