Job Description:
Waste Management Operative
*Location: Leicestershire
*Job Type: Full-time, Temp
*Hourly Rate: £13.75
Join our Environment and Transport team at Leicestershire County Council as a Waste Management Operative. This role is crucial in operating the loading shovel and other plant equipment at waste sites across Leicestershire, ensuring a safe and efficient service delivery for the benefit of the local community.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
*Operate loading shovels and other plant machinery to manage and bulk waste.
*Engage with internal and external site users, maintaining positive and cooperative relationships.
*Ensure compliance with electronic/paper-based records and communicate effectively with drivers and contractors for safe site operations.
*Maintain accurate and current records, using systems such as the weighbridge to ensure site safety and efficiency.
*Load outgoing vehicles according to specifications, ensuring accurate documentation.
*Maintain a clean and tidy work environment and assist in inducting site users for safe operations.
*Adhere to health and safety procedures and support new team members in understanding processes and procedures.
*Identify opportunities to improve customer service and recycling rates.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*GCSE Maths/English or equivalent.
*Loading shovel/plant ticket or qualification.
*Experience in the waste management industry or a similar workplace.
*Proficiency in using specialist tools, such as loading shovels and telehandlers.
*Knowledge of waste disposal and treatment legislation and driver/vehicle practices.
*Strong organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
*Basic IT skills and competence in operating fixed and mobile plant.
Special Factors:
*Work may involve out-of-normal working hours, including bank holidays, weekends, and out-of-hours.
*May require working at different locations across the county.
*Attendance at training courses, conferences, or meetings as required.
