Application Engineer, Cambridge or London (hybrid, 3 days onsite)

This is an opportunity to join a growing application engineering team working on production-grade systems at the intersection of software engineering, data, and applied AI.
THE ROLE
As an Application Engineer, you will work within a cross-functional product team, building and scaling features that are used directly by customers.
*Develop full stack features across a large, complex platform
*Work with high-volume, data-heavy systems where performance and scalability matter
*Collaborate closely with product managers, QA, and AI-focused R&D teams
*Take ownership of features from design through to production and iteration
*Contribute ideas and improvements rather than working from rigid specifications
TECH ENVIRONMENT
*JavaScript and TypeScript
*Node.js
*Modern frontend frameworks (with an ongoing migration to React)
*PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Redis
*AWS, Docker, Kubernetes
*Java / Python experience is an advantage
WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR
*Strong academic background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline (1st or 2.1 from a good University)
*Typically 3–5 years of commercial software engineering experience, with flexibility for exceptional candidates
*Experience building production software, ideally in a full stack environment
*Strong problem-solving ability and logical thinking
