Job Description:
Lead CNC Turner
We are seeking an experienced Lead CNC Turner to take responsibility for the turning section within our clients machine shop. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to support workflow, quality, and continuous improvement across the department.
Key Responsibilities
*Set, operate, and programme CNC lathes (including Y-axis, sliding head, sub-spindle, standard CNC, and manual machines where required)
* Interpret detailed engineering drawings and machine to tight tolerances
* Take ownership of job setup, tooling selection, and process optimisation
* Ensure quality standards through in-process inspection and final checks
* Lead the turning section to meet production targets and delivery deadlines
* Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions
* Liaise with Production Planning to optimise job sequencing
* Maintain tooling, equipment, and housekeeping standards
* Drive continuous improvement to enhance efficiency and reduce waste
* Ensure compliance with health & safety procedures
Skills & Experience Required
* Proven experience as a CNC Turner within a precision engineering environment
* Strong experience setting and operating CNC lathes (Fanuc, Haas, or similar controls advantageous)
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings accurately
* Experience working to tight tolerances and high-quality standards
* Solid understanding of tooling, materials, and machining processes
* Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing desirable
* Previous leadership or mentoring experience advantageous
*Ideally with offline programming experience with Fusion 360 (not essential)
