Job PurposeYou will be part of a team ensuring the design of Water Network projects, namely Mains Renewal, Internal Diversions, PMV/Meter, MMI’s, Pumping Stations, Mains Renewal, Air Valve Replacements and Reservoir’s. You will have to ensure the projects are developed to agreed standards and levels of Service. The team is also responsible for delivering the Regional Pressure Optimisation Project.
The Designer is part of the team responsible for project design for schemes generated internally by Water/Wastewater customers. The team is responsible for the generation of approximately 400+ designs and estimates per annum to the value of £4m+.
The role is responsible for the design of individual projects within Clean Water Networks.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities*The design development of Mains Renewal, Internal Diversions, PMV/Meter, MMI’s, Pumping Station, Mains Renewal, Air Valve Replacement, Reservoir’s projects throughout the region.
*Maintaining and updating the Water Network Design Sharepoint Site and JIRA.
*Liaison with Construction Partner to identify and resolve potential construction issues. Smooth transition from design to construction.
*Responsible for the maintenance and implementation of changes to policy, systems, procedures and technical developments.
*Fulfil the Designer’s duties under the CDM Regulations 2015, where applicable.
*Ensure that Water Network Design projects meet the company design standards and policies, as well as regulatory requirements/timescales.
*Provide technical advice and support - to both the internal and - in respect of project designs and site requirements.
*Provide flexible support in the event of customer impacting incidents.
*Ability to progress schemes from initial enquiry through design/estimating and release for construction.
*Instigate/facilitate pre-design meetings in accordance with the ’Non-Core Process’.
*Provide support and guidance to team members
*Attend pre-construction meetings where required and work closely with the Performance Engineers during the construction phases of projects to manage the "change control" and revisions to designs.
*Work closely with the UU Commercial team to understand the least cost options and most efficient application of pipeline replacement techniques.
Technical Skills & Experience*HNC or equivalent in a Civil/Technical Engineering-related discipline or experience.
*An understanding of the company’s relationships with its Regulators.
*Excellent communication skills at all levels, and extensive experience of communications with internal customers and Construction Partners.
*A democratic and flexible approach.
*An ability to manage and promote design process change.
*Able to demonstrate a high level of competence in interpersonal, influencing and presentation skills.
*A thorough understanding of Water Networks.
*Fully competent in producing an Auto-Cad drawing to support each scheme.
*Fully competent in the use of Microsoft office, Excel, Word, Outlook.
*Full UK Driving License essential.
*Produce a PCI document in accordance with CDM 2015 requirements.
Desirable Criteria
*Understanding and previous experience of the UU estimating system
*Understanding and previous experience of the Water Network Design Team Sharepoint
*Previous experience in delivering Water Network schemes
*Competent in carrying out ’Utility’ searches including MAHP
*Knowledge of UU strategic systems: SAP Core, UU GIS and onemap
*Knowledge of the Waste Water System
QualificationsEssential Qualifications
*HNC or equivalent in a Civil/Technical Engineering-related discipline or experience.
