Job PurposeTo be responsible for the control of the Grounds Maintenance (GM) fleet of machinery, ensuring it is maintained in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner, making certain all compliance obligations are met (PUWER). This will be a mobile service around various depots in the Northwest.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities*Plan, prioritise and carry out servicing and repairs for a wide range of GM machinery, from handheld tools to large ride-on and specialist equipment.
*Procure parts and consumables with the GM Manager, ensuring compliance with PUWER regulations and maintaining accurate work records.
*Manage and develop apprentices, providing on-the-job training where required.
*Coordinate repairs with approved suppliers, liaise with manufacturers for technical information, and manage stock requirements and procurement.
*Conduct HAV testing, ensure proper disposal of hazardous waste, maintain safe and tidy work areas, and comply with all Health & Safety policies.
*Support personal development by attending mandatory training and proactively engaging in further learning.
Technical Skills & Experience*Demonstrated ongoing professional development in diagnostics, hydraulics, electrics, and robotic/automated machinery servicing.
*Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills, using digital diagnostic tools, onboard systems, and manufacturer software.
*In-depth understanding of PUWER/LOLER and safety compliance for all types of grounds-maintenance machinery.
*Skilled in preventative maintenance, identifying emerging mechanical, electrical, or safety issues before failure.
*Confident technical authority, able to interpret manuals/drawings, manage digital service records, and make informed repair and safety decisions.
*Effective communicator with strong organisational skills, capable of managing workload across a large fleet, supporting colleagues, and working independently on or off-site.
Qualifications*NVQ Level 3 in Horticultural or Agricultural Machinery Maintenance (or an equivalent recognised qualification in mechanical engineering or machinery service engineering).
*Advanced technical capability, strong diagnostic competence, and a high level of professional judgement when working across a diverse and specialist fleet of horticultural and grounds maintenance machinery.
*Extensive hands-on experience in the independent servicing, repair, and full-life maintenance of a broad range of equipment—from small handheld tools (e.g. strimmers and pedestrian mowers) to complex robotics, hydraulic systems, and specialist plant such as Aebi T211 tractors.
*Expertise in using Microsoft Office and digital asset-management systems for record-keeping, reporting, and maintenance scheduling.
*Full UK driving licence (Category C licence desirable).
