Job Description:
This is a great opportunity to join an organisation within the Education sector. So previous experience required or public sector knowledge.
Either part time or full time is acceptable for our client.
Financial Accounting & Controls
*Safeguard the integrity of ledgers, ensuring all entries comply with financial regulations, SORP and DfE requirements.
*Lead monthly and year-end accounts production, ensuring accuracy, completeness and timely submission.
*Oversee reconciliation of key balance sheet, control, credit card, payroll and bank accounts.
*Complete monthly payroll reconciliations and postings.
*Ensure VAT compliance, prepare quarterly VAT returns and apply correct VAT treatment across income streams.
*Maintain strong financial governance, internal controls and adherence to audit recommendations.
*Ensure accurate accounting for capital projects, restricted funds, grants and externally funded activity.
Management Reporting & Budgeting
*Lead the monthly management accounts process, including closedown, reconciliations, accruals and prepayments.
*Produce monthly reporting packs with commentary, variance analysis, KPIs and forecasts.
*Provide clear financial insight and decision support to the Director of Finance, CFO and budget holders.
*Lead annual budget setting, in-year reforecasts and longer-term financial planning.
*Develop dashboards and reporting improvements to enhance forecasting and performance monitoring.
*Manage cashflow and produce a rolling 12-month forecast
Leadership & Team Management
*Lead, support and develop the finance team, promoting a high-performance, collaborative and customer-focused culture.
*Allocate workload, set priorities and ensure training needs are met.
*Ensure consistent financial processes across teams, campuses and systems.
*Provide technical accounting expertise to the wider finance function.
Systems, Processes & Continuous Improvement
*Oversee configuration, security and operation of the finance system (iPlicit).
*Work with MIS, HR, IT and other stakeholders to ensure data quality, system integration and process efficiency.
*Lead process improvements across procure-to-pay, income processing, credit control and reporting, maximising use of technology.
*Ensure compliance with financial regulations and contribute to policy reviews.
Compliance, Audit & External Reporting
*Act as lead for internal and external audits, preparing audit files, responding to queries and implementing recommendations.
*Prepare accurate financial returns for external bodies and funding agencies (DfE, ONS, capital etc).
*Maintain robust internal controls and compliance with financial standards and procedures.
*Support the directors’ with regular and ad-hoc reporting to senior leaders.
Operational Finance Oversight
*Ensure timely, accurate processing across purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll, cash and treasury, fixed assets and capital expenditure.
*Maintain strong credit control, monitor debt levels and support departments in reducing aged debt.
Other Responsibilities
*Undertake duties and policies on health and safety, safeguarding, equality, diversity and customer service.
*Attend training as required.
