Job Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and forward-thinking Occupational Health Consultant to join the Occupational Health Service supporting an NHS Trust based in East London.
The post holder will play a pivotal role in promoting and developing a high-quality Occupational Health (OH) service, ensuring delivery is aligned with the principles of clinical governance and a preventative, patient-centred model of care. You will work collaboratively with the Head of Service, Specialist Occupational Health Nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide expert clinical leadership and strategic direction.
This role offers the opportunity to shape and expand services, influence policy at local and national levels, and contribute to innovation, research and commercial development within a large and progressive NHS Trust.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide expert clinical leadership across the Occupational Health Service.
Deliver high-quality occupational medicine services including:
*Health surveillance
*Pre-employment medical assessments
*Immunisation and screening programmes
*Statutory medical examinations
*Fitness for work assessments
*Ill-health retirement assessments in line with NHS Pensions Agency requirements
Ensure compliance with the Equality Act (2010) and relevant occupational health legislation.
Maintain the highest standards of professional practice in Occupational Medicine.
Support effective rehabilitation and return-to-work programmes.
Investigate potential work-related ill health in collaboration with key stakeholders.
Provide medical support for health protection and health risk management.
Provide clinical supervision and leadership to junior medical and nursing staff.
Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Engage in clinical research as part of the Trust’s research and development programme (with allocated time in job plan where agreed).
Network with professional bodies, NHS organisations, GPs and Department of Health representatives.
Contribute to local, regional and national policy development where appropriate.


We are seeking a motivated and experienced Consultant in Occupational Medicine who:
*Is GMC registered with a Licence to Practise.
*Holds specialist registration (or is eligible) in Occupational Medicine.
*Demonstrates extensive experience in delivering high-quality occupational health services.
*Has strong leadership, teaching and mentoring capabilities.
*Has experience in clinical governance, audit and service development.
*Is commercially aware and able to contribute to business planning.
*Demonstrates excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
*Is committed to innovation, continuous improvement and preventative healthcare models.
Academic interests and research involvement are welcomed and supported.
