Job Description:

Associate Director, Technical Delivery Architect (London)
GKR International is working exclusively with a highly regarded and award winning international studio based in Central London that are looking to hire an experienced and commercially astute technical delivery leader to join their team.
This role is a strategic hire and you will be joining the senior management team from day one, where you will be responsible for steering the successful delivery of complex projects, supporting and growing client relationships, and strengthening their position across the London market, with the added opportunity to step into international projects when opportunity presents itself.
You, as the ideal person, will be a trusted advisor to clients, an inspiring leader to your team, you will be someone who excels in project set-up, appointments, scopes of work, and delivery of robust, coordinated technical design and you will be working closely with the board ensuring that projects and well managed from the outset and delivered efficiently through all stages.
The role combines leadership, technical excellence and business development, and offers genuine opportunity for progression within a globally recognised practice.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Project Setup & Appointments
*Lead the preparation and negotiation of client and consultant appointments, including fee proposals, schedules of services, and contractual documentation
*Define and manage clear scopes of work across all RIBA stages across mixed use projects
*Advise on procurement routes, programme, risk, and delivery strategy
*Support Directors in fee management, resourcing, and project planning
Technical Leadership & Design Management
*Take overall responsibility for technical design quality across multiple projects
*Lead the production, review, and coordination of detailed design, specifications, and construction information
*Ensure compliance with building regulations, statutory requirements, and technical standards
*Oversee consultant coordination and resolve complex technical issues
Project Delivery & Construction Support
*Lead or oversee projects through detailed design, tender, and construction stages
*Provide senior technical input during tendering, value engineering, and contractor negotiations
*Respond to technical queries, RFIs, and site issues during construction
*Support contract administration and site delivery as required
Practice Leadership & Quality Assurance
*Act as the technical authority within the practice
*Establish, maintain, and improve technical standards, templates, and QA processes
*Mentor senior and mid-level staff, fostering technical excellence and consistency
*Contribute to business-wide decision-making alongside the Directors
Skills & Experience Required:
Essential
*ARB registered Architect (or equivalent)
*Proven experience in a senior technical or delivery-focused role, mixed use projects
*Strong track record of preparing appointments, scopes of work, and fee proposals
*In-depth knowledge of UK building regulations and construction processes
*Confident managing multidisciplinary consultant teams
*Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills
*Have proven experience of schematic design – stage 2
*Be able to demonstrate strong financial acumen when negotiating and managing fees
Desirable
*Experience operating at Associate Director or Director level
*Strong commercial awareness and risk management skills
*Experience supporting or leading construction-stage delivery
*Background across multiple sectors or complex projects
