Job Description:
Reed Accountancy are currently assisting an established client in the local area in the recruitment of an experienced Payroll Clerk to join their team for a maternity cover contract. This role is crucial for the end-to-end processing of monthly payroll across three group companies, including one entity with over 1,000 employees across 100 branches. This role will work closely with the Senior Payroll Manager to ensure payroll is delivered accurately, confidentially, and in line with strict deadlines.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Processing new starters, leavers, contractual changes, salary amendments, overtime, and deductions.
*Calculating and processing statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP, etc.).
*Ensuring accurate tax, NI, and pension deductions.
*Reconciling payroll prior to submission and ensuring sign-off within agreed timelines.
*Assisting with Office for National Statistics reporting requirements.
*Supporting internal and external audit requests.
*Providing payroll data for audit and compliance purposes.
*Maintaining payroll system accuracy and data integrity.
*Acting as a point of contact for payroll-related queries.
*Liaising with HR and line managers to ensure payroll changes are captured accurately.
*Always maintaining strict confidentiality.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Strong knowledge of HMRC legislation and statutory payroll requirements.
*Experience handling high-volume payroll (1,000+ employees is desirable).
*Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
*Ability to work independently and prioritise workload.
*Good communication skills are essential.
*A good level of Excel knowledge to build pivot-tables if required.
