Job Description:
We’re excited to share this opportunity for a Mixing Room Operator based in Edinburgh (EH11 4HN). This is a full-time, permanent role, paid weekly in arrears, with a pay rate of £15.27 per hour. You’ll be working a rotating Monday–Friday shift, alternating between 6am–2pm and 2pm–10pm.
We’re proud to be recruiting on behalf of Fox’s Burton’s Companies (FBC UK), the powerhouse behind some of the UK’s most iconic biscuits. From Maryland Cookies and Fox’s classics to Jammie Dodgers and Rocky, they’ve combined the strengths of two heritage brands to create a truly special business with big ambitions. They’re already the second-largest biscuit manufacturer in the UK, and their vision is to become number one — which is where you might come in.
At FBC UK, people are the secret ingredient. The business thrives on passion, creativity and teamwork. If you’re the type who could be the jammy to their dodger, the party ring to their Fox’s, or the choc-chip to their Maryland, this could be the perfect place for you. They value those who bring innovative ideas, an entrepreneurial mindset, and genuine commitment to excellence.
The role itself is a crucial part of the biscuit-making journey, as it all begins in the mixing room. This is a hands-on, physical, team-focused environment where clear communication, attention to detail, and the ability to follow processes are essential. Your day begins by checking the rota to see which line or plant you’re assigned to, followed by reviewing the recipe sheet to ensure the mixing machinery is set to the correct specifications — from weights to batch numbers.
As a Mixer, you’ll follow the recipe sheet to set the machine correctly, monitoring the order and quantity of ingredients and performing quality checks on consistency and colour. Some recipes include additional manual ingredients — known as "Add Ons" — such as soda or salt, which you’ll add yourself. These ingredients are prepared in advance by the Chemical Maker.
Working as a Chemical Mixer, you’ll prepare these specialist mixtures using a range of chemical ingredients, following set guidelines, measuring accurately, and using tools such as shovels and weighing systems to get everything just right before delivering it to the main mixer.
The Servicer role focuses on keeping production running smoothly by transporting bulk ingredients from the warehouse to the mixing and storage areas. This involves physical work, stock checks, and sometimes the use of a forklift or pallet trucks (although a colleague can support with FL duties if needed).
To thrive in this role, you’ll need to be aged 18 or over and able to evidence your full right to work in the UK. This includes students, who must be able to take part in a 40-hour paid induction. You’ll also need to be numerate, literate, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-focused environment. Because this is food manufacturing, you’ll be working to strict hygiene standards — full training is provided. ...
