Sea Freight Export Operator Responsibilities:
*Liaise with customers to prepare and provide accurate and competitive quotations, ensuring each quote is commercially sound and aligned with customer needs
*Communicate with shipping lines, hauliers, and overseas agents to gather the most competitive and suitable rates and to coordinate shipments
*Manage export bookings from start to finish, including raising and processing all relevant export documentation such as Bills of Lading, customs entries, manifests, and shipping instructions
*Process all export bookings, and actively monitor its progress to communicate any delays or issues to customers
*Continually ensure full compliance with international shipping regulations
*Oversee shipment profitability by ensuring each shipment is costed correctly, margins are protected, and files are finalised
*Coordinate the invoice process, including reviewing supplier invoices against agreed rates and resolving any discrepancies, and ensuring all charges are captured and passed to the accounts department for payment
*Act as a key point of contact for customers, handling incoming calls and emails, providing shipment updates, resolving queries, and managing any issues that arise
*Support the smooth day-to-day running of the office, collaborating internally and externally to ensure shipments move seamlessly and deadlines are met
*Offer ad-hoc support where necessary
Sea Freight Export Operator Skills and Experience:
*Proven experience in sea freight exports, ideally within a freight forwarding or logistics environment
*Strong knowledge of LCL shipments would be an advantage
*Solid understanding and experience of export documentation, including Bills of Lading, shipping instructions and customs entries
*Confident in managing shipments, from quotations and bookings through to file closure and invoicing
*Exceptional communicator, confident in liaising with customers, hauliers, and shipping lines
*Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise multiple shipments and deadlines
*Great problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure when dealing with delays or disruptions
