Job Description:
The Data Science Lead is a hands-on, individual contributor responsible for building and growing Chaucer’s data science capability within the central Data Office. The role blends strategic leadership with technical delivery, laying the foundations for Chaucer’s Data Science & AI Centre for Enablement.
The role’s purpose is to accelerate Chaucer’s ability to use advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI to drive business growth, efficiency, and risk management, ensuring Chaucer becomes an increasingly data-driven organisation. You’ll develop advanced analytics and AI solutions, explore emerging technologies such as Agentic AI and Snowflake Cortex, and identify high-value AI use cases that deliver real impact.
This is a hands-on role, involving coding, model development, and solution delivery, while shaping the roadmap for future growth. You’ll also provide guidance and mentorship as the capability evolves. Initially an individual contributor position, this role has the potential to grow into a leadership role as the function expands.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Leadership
*Define and deliver Chaucer’s data science and AI roadmap aligned with business objectives.
*Establish a Data Science & AI Centre for Enablement, setting best practices and standards.
*Drive the Data & AI Working Group, ensuring alignment on emerging technologies, ethical AI practices, and strategic priorities.
Model Development & AI Solutions
*Design, develop, and deploy predictive models to identify patterns, trends, and insights that support strategic decision-making.
*Develop AI-driven solutions for document extraction, ingestion, and automation.
*Explore and productionise new AI use cases, including Agentic AI and generative AI applications.
*Leverage Snowflake Cortex for advanced analytics and AI integration.
Collaboration & Enablement
*Translate business requirements into actionable AI and data science solutions that deliver measurable commercial outcomes.
*Collaborate closely across the business including pricing, underwriting, claims and IT to integrate AI models and insights into day-to-day decision-making and workflows.
*Partner with Data Engineering and IT to design robust data pipelines and enable smooth, scalable model deployment into production environments.
*Act as a strategic advisor to business stakeholders, identifying AI opportunities and championing data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
*Build strong relationships across IT, Data Engineering, and business units to ensure alignment on standards, governance, and innovation.
Governance & Compliance
*Ensure models and AI solutions meet regulatory and governance standards.
*Champion ethical AI practices and data privacy compliance.
Innovation & Experimentation
*Lead proof-of-concept projects to test and scale new ideas quickly.
*Stay ahead of emerging technologies and bring practical innovation into the business.
What We’re Looking For
