Job Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate History Teacher to join our secondary school on a contract basis. The successful candidate will deliver engaging and academically rigorous History lessons to students aged 11-16, fostering critical thinking, analytical skills, and a strong understanding of historical events and contexts.
This is a fixed-term contract position with the possibility of renewal based on performance and school requirements.
Key Responsibilities
*Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality History lessons aligned with the national curriculum
*Teach a range of historical periods, themes, and topics
*Develop students’ critical thinking, research, and essay-writing skills
*Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning needs
*Assess, record, and report on student progress
*Prepare students for internal and external examinations
*Maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
*Provide constructive and timely feedback to students
*Participate in staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school events
*Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Qualifications & Requirements
*Bachelor’s degree in History, Education, or a related field
*Teaching qualification/certification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent)
*Previous secondary school teaching experience preferred
*Strong classroom management and organisational skills
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
*Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing
Desirable Skills
*Experience preparing students for GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level, or equivalent examinations
*Ability to teach a broad range of historical periods (e.g., modern, medieval, world history)
*Experience using digital learning tools and educational technology
*Experience working in diverse or multicultural school settings
