Job Description:
What’s the role?
As a senior engineer at RYBKA ,you will work closely with the associate to provide leadership and management of the Engineering team. You will provide technical expertise and direction for complex (and non-complex) engineering projects leading on delivery from briefing through to handover.
This senior role combines hands-on technical leadership, management of engineering staff, as well as a requirement to support the learning and development of junior staff across the business. The role will require to work collaboratively with our BIM and sustainability teams to ensure our Engineering, BIM, and Sustainability services are delivered efficiently and to a consistently high standard with quality built-in to our outputs. The role includes project delivery, client engagement, team leadership, and supporting strategic growth of the consultancy.
Working Conditions - Hybrid working model (typically 3 days office 2 days home) , Monday-Friday 37.5 contractual hours per week.
Key Responsibilities: *Take technical ownership and accountability for electrical design outputs and design sign-off in accordance with company governance procedures.
*Deliver assigned projects to agreed programme milestones, maintaining high technical quality with minimal rework.
*Ensure MEP designs are compliant with relevant standards and aligned with project brief.
*Proactively manage internal team resource allocation to meet deliverables efficiently.
*Maintaining commercial awareness and identifying risks early.
*Lead electrical services design reviews and coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces.
*Maintain positive client and industry relationships
*Act as technical focal point for electrical design queries, providing timely and consistent guidance.
*Review key electrical designs across projects to ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g. BS 7671, BS 5266, BS 5839, HTM where applicable) and internal QA procedures.
*Liaise with other senior team members and leads to promote consistent electrical design philosophy across projects.
*Support mentoring and upskilling of graduate and engineer-level staff through structured technical input.
*Collaborate across the Rybka business including BIM and Sustainability Teams
*Continually develop knowledge to remain current with emerging technologies, regulations, and industry best practice
Team Integration *Lead and support mentoring of Engineers, Technicians, Graduates, and Trainees
*Develop technical capabilities within the team through training and knowledge sharing
*Implement existing training programmes to enhance team capabilities in Engineering design
*Build and maintain relationships with Clients, Architects, Engineers, and Contractors
*Contribute to bid strategy, programme planning, and technical scope definition for new opportunities.
*Assist in Preparation of fee / bid proposals and support client presentations
*Lead project delivery ensuring quality, programme, and commercial performance targets are achieved.
*Produce outline design, scheme design, and detailed design reports including drawings and specifications.
*Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including Architects , C&S Engineers, Sustainability Consultants etc
*Provide technical oversight during construction, including review of contractor submissions, site inspections, and resolution of technical queries.
*Ensure projects meet quality assurance standards and client expectations
*Monitor project financial performance including fee utilisation, variations, and scope control in collaboration with senior leadership.
*Support the Director and Associates in managing project commercials, including scope control, change management, and maintaining profitability targets.
What we’re looking for: *Strong understanding of engineering consultancy services and delivery models
*Substantial experience in Engineering Consultancy (or similar role) with demonstrable experience leading project delivery.
*Proven track record in leading complex projects
*Experience managing teams and developing staff
*Experience in working on a variety of project sectors
*Understanding of engineering design and project delivery processes
*Excellent presentation and communication skills
*Strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities
*Proven track record in developing and maintaining effective working relationships at all levels.
*Possesses a high degree of technical competence
*Proficiency in carrying out calculations using technical software such as Elec OM, Amtech and Dialux
*Proficiency in software such as AutoCAD (Revit is desirable but not a requirement)
*Strong knowledge of building regulations, energy standards, and certification schemes
*Understanding of renewable energy systems and low-carbon technologies
*Knowledge of sustainable Electrical systems including solar PV, and energy storage
*Understanding of building automation, smart building technologies, and IoT integration
*Knowledge of whole life and embodied carbon analysis
*Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary environments
*Experience of operating in an ISO9001 Quality Management System.
*Understanding of electrical load assessments, fault level studies, protection coordination, and resilience strategies
*Ability to review contractor design submissions and respond to technical queries during construction
