Location: Birmingham
Reporting To: Directors
Workshop Manager-Role Overview
The Workshop Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of two workshops in Birmingham, overseeing operational performance, staff, and customer service delivery.
The role focuses on ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality workmanship, regulatory compliance, and strong customer relationships. You will lead a team of 10–15 specialist mechanics and technicians, while maintaining the standards that underpin the company’s reputation during a period of significant expansion.
Workshop Manager-Key Responsibilities
Workshop & Operations Management
*Manage daily workshop operations across two sites, ensuring efficient planning and workflow
*Allocate work effectively to technicians to meet service deadlines and customer expectations
*Oversee booking-in of customer vehicles for servicing, repairs, and inspections
*Plan vehicle servicing schedules, MOTs, tachographs, and statutory inspections
*Ensure call-out and emergency cover is planned and maintained
Team Leadership
*Lead, manage, and support a team of mechanics and technicians
*Monitor attendance, sickness, and absence
*Manage staff holidays and contribute to rota planning
*Support recruitment, onboarding, and induction of new staff
Customer & Client Management
*Act as the main point of contact for customers and key stakeholders
*Hold regular meetings with customers to review service delivery and performance
*Prepare quotations and provide job progress updates
*Maintain and update Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
Compliance, Health & Safety
*Ensure workshop operations comply with all relevant health & safety and regulatory requirements
*Maintain accurate documentation and service records
*Promote a safe working environment and ensure correct use of PPE
Administrative & Financial Control
*Prepare repair estimates and manage approvals
*Oversee purchase orders, invoicing, and related administration
*Support accurate record keeping across fleet and workshop systems
Workshop Manager-Skills & Experience
Essential
*Previous experience as a Workshop Manager or Senior Supervisor
*Background in heavy vehicles or automotive environments
*Strong leadership and organisational skills
*Customer-focused with excellent communication abilities
*Confident managing workloads, people, and priorities
Desirable
*Experience managing multi-site workshop operations
*Familiarity with fleet management or workshop systems
*Health & safety responsibility experience
Personal Attributes
*Hands-on, proactive leader
*Calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment
*High attention to detail and commitment to quality
*Flexible to work overtime and travel occasionally as required
