Job Description:

City of London Corporation are seeking an experienced Media and Press Officer to join our Media Team. This role focuses on promoting the City of London Corporation’s work across national and international media, with a particular emphasis on the Asia-Pacific region. You will work closely with senior figures, including the Lord Mayor and Policy Chair, and occasionally travel overseas.
Location: Guildhall (walking distance from Bank Station) – 3 days based in the office and 2 days from home
Contract: 4-month contract (possibility of further extensions and going permanent)
Pay rate: £27.51 per hour via PAYE or £36.01 per hour via Umbrella
About the Role
You will help shape the narrative around the City of London’s contribution to the UK’s financial and professional services sector. The role involves proactive media engagement, responding to enquiries, managing press office activity, supporting major events and providing strategic communications advice.
Key Responsibilities
*Promote the City Corporation’s work across print, broadcast and digital media.
*Maintain strong relationships with journalists to secure positive coverage.
*Draft press releases, statements, briefings and authored articles.
*Respond promptly to media enquiries and act as spokesperson when required.
*Use social media platforms to enhance reach and impact.
*Build strong working relationships with Members, Officers and external partners.
*Provide strategic media advice to senior leaders.
*Support high-profile events such as the Lord Mayor’s Show and State Banquets.
*Monitor and evaluate media activity to inform future planning.
About You
*Experience working in a press office or fast-paced media environment.
*Strong writing skills with the ability to produce clear, accurate and engaging content.
*Confident in handling media enquiries and managing multiple tasks under pressure.
*Politically aware and comfortable working with senior stakeholders.
*Knowledge of financial and professional services (desirable).
*Ability to work collaboratively and exercise sound judgement.
