CDM Principal Designer

An established architectural practice in Birmingham is seeking a senior CDM Principal Designer, a confident CDM Principal Designer, and an experienced CDM Principal Designer to lead health and safety across a diverse Midlands project portfolio. This is a key appointment for a commercially aware CDM Principal Designer who can design out risk at concept stage and influence design teams from day one. The successful CDM Principal Designer will take ownership of the CDM function internally, making this CDM Principal Designer role both visible and business-critical.
With circa 40 staff, the practice is well recognised for its healthcare projects, while also delivering industrial and commercial schemes. The appointed CDM Principal Designer will oversee projects ranging from £10k refurbishments through to £120m developments. As the sole CDM Principal Designer in the business, you will have autonomy to shape and grow this relatively new department, working alongside another senior professional to develop the service offering.
The Role * Lead CDM Principal Designer duties across multiple sectors

* Embed health and safety into the design process

* Proactively design out risk at early project stages

* Advise clients and chair design and risk meetings

* Work closely with architects and consultants across the Midlands

The Candidate * Background in architecture, design or a strong H&S-led design environment

* Senior-level experience within a CDM Principal Designer role

* Confident challenging design teams and influencing stakeholders

* Strong knowledge of current CDM regulations

* Commercially aware and able to manage schemes from £10k to £120m

The Package * Hybrid working with flexibility tailored to the individual

* Weekly touch base in the Birmingham office (typically once a week)
