Job Description:
Skilled Toolmaker needed for a busy team located in RochfordSalary: £30,000–£35,000 (DOE)
OverviewAn opportunity has become available for a highly skilled Toolmaker to join a precision engineering environment, ideally with aerospace experience. Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for the manufacture, assembly, maintenance, and repair of precision tooling, jigs, and fixtures used within production.
The role requires a commitment to producing high-quality tooling solutions, improving efficiency, and supporting a zero-defect culture.
You will work safely, accurately, and proactively, contributing to continuous improvement while meeting production and quality expectations.
Key ResponsibilitiesToolmaking & Machining*Manufacture, modify, and repair precision tooling, jigs, fixtures, and gauges
*Operate manual machines including lathes, mills, grinders, and other toolroom equipment
*Carry out bench fitting, assembly, and fine adjustments to tooling
*Support production with tooling improvements and breakdown response
*Work from engineering drawings to produce high-precision components
Quality Control*Perform first-off inspections and in-process checks on tooling and manufactured components
*Ensure all tooling meets required tolerances and specifications
*Use precision measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers, height gauges, and DTI equipment
*Maintain accurate documentation of work completed
Performance & Efficiency*Help minimise downtime by maintaining and repairing tooling efficiently
*Identify improvements to tooling design to enhance production performance
*Support delivery schedules, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives
*Complete maintenance records and documentation as required
Health, Safety & Workplace Standards*Follow all health and safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE at all times
*Maintain a clean, organised, and safe toolroom environment
*Ensure all equipment is maintained in safe working order
Skills & Experience Required*Strong technical background in engineering, ideally with aerospace manufacturing exposure
*Proven experience as a Toolmaker within a precision engineering environment
*Skilled in manual machining and bench fitting
*Confident in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications
*Strong understanding of tight tolerances and precision measurement
*Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
*A collaborative team player with effective communication skills
*Ability to support company goals through consistent performance and proactive input
