From Community Spaces to Everyday Safety – Make a Difference with Reading Borough Council


We’re working with Reading Borough Council to recruit a Car Park Customer Service Assistant to join their Parking Services team. This is a busy, hands-on role where you’ll help keep council-managed car parks safe, clean and running smoothly for the public.
You’ll be a visible presence on site, supporting customers, carrying out patrols, resolving issues, and making sure the environment is welcoming and well-maintained. If you enjoy a role that mixes customer service with practical, on-your-feet work, this could be a great fit.


How You’ll Make an Impact
*Providing help, information and support to customers on site
*Carrying out regular foot patrols across the car park(s)
*Keeping the car parks clean, tidy and safe
*Deterring vandalism, theft and other unwanted activity through a visible presence
*Investigating and resolving customer complaints
*Operating parking control equipment and assisting with ticket checks
*Regulating entry/exit of vehicles and supporting day-to-day operations
*Completing basic paperwork and reporting issues as needed
*Working closely with the Car Parks Cluster Manager and team colleagues
*Liaising with local police and businesses when required
*Carrying out light maintenance tasks, including graffiti removal and painting
How We’ll Know You’re the Right Fit
*Has previous experience in a customer-facing role
*Can communicate clearly and confidently with the public
*Is organised, dependable and able to work on their own initiative
*Stays calm under pressure and manages multiple tasks effectively
*Works well as part of a team and supports colleagues when needed
*Has basic computer skills
*Holds a full clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
*Can work flexibly across sites as required
*Capability to work from home (laptop will be provided but at least one additional monitor essential
How It All Comes Together
*Working Hours: This is a 37-hour working week, scheduled over five days within a seven-day rota. Shifts may vary, with start times from 6:00am and finishes up to midnight
*Duration: 12 months
*Contract: Employed by Reed, on a temporary assignment with Reading Borough Council
*Payrate: £13.26 per hour PAYE, paid weekly one week in arrears
*Location: Queens Road or Broad Street Mall car park in Reading
