Are you an experienced HR/People professional who loves delivering exceptional service and getting the details right?

My client, a well-established organisation in Canterbury, is seeking a People Assistant to join their team on a part-time, temp basis. You’ll play a vital role in delivering a high-quality, customer-focused HR support service across the full employee lifecycle.
The Role
As the People Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for employees, managers, and candidates, providing professional and efficient support. Your responsibilities will include:
Key Responsibilities
*Acting as a customer-centric first point of contact for HR queries, escalating where needed.
*Administering recruitment processes including advertising roles, scheduling interviews, preparing offers, and completing pre-employment checks.
*Managing onboarding processes to ensure a smooth and positive new-starter experience.
*Producing and issuing contracts, processing contractual changes, and managing leaver arrangements.
*Maintaining accurate HR systems and personnel records in line with GDPR and compliance standards.
*Supporting HR casework by preparing documentation, organising meetings, and taking minutes.
*Carrying out right-to-work checks and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
*Providing administrative support to People Development activities, including training logistics, attendance tracking, and L&D event support.
*Supporting culture, wellbeing, and engagement initiatives across the organisation.
*Contributing to continuous improvement and identifying ways to enhance HR service delivery.
About You
We’re looking for someone who brings:
Essential Skills & Experience
*Experience providing first-line HR/People support.
*Proven administration experience across recruitment, onboarding, and employment changes.
*Strong knowledge of HR systems and confidence using Microsoft Office.
*Experience managing sensitive information confidentially and professionally.
*Ability to work accurately, with excellent attention to detail.
*Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
*Clear and confident communication skills.
Desirable
*Experience working in a higher-education environment.
*Level 3 CIPD or equivalent HR/business qualification (or relevant experience).
