Job Description:
Graduate Quantity Surveyor
The Opportunity
Specialist brickwork contracting is a high-volume, fast-paced environment where success is found in the details.
We are seeking a Graduate Quantity Surveyor who wants more than just a desk-based role. This is an opportunity to gain real, practical commercial experience within masonry packages across live construction projects.
You won’t be observing from a distance — you’ll be actively involved in protecting and improving the commercial health of our projects from day one.
This role is about developing genuine expertise: understanding material procurement, labour output, contract requirements, and how all three interact to drive profitability on site.
The Role:
Technical Mastery & Site Visibility
Working directly alongside our Commercial Managers, you will gain hands-on experience across the full project lifecycle.
Precision Measurement
*Producing detailed take-offs from architectural drawings
*Developing accuracy and speed in quantification
Site-Based Learning
*Regular site visits across the North West
*Verifying progress against applications
*Managing variations in real time
*Ensuring commercial records reflect physical build progress
Commercial Exposure
*Assisting with subcontractor valuations
*Procuring specialist masonry materials
*Supporting monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs)
*Monitoring labour and material cost performance
Workforce & Payroll Management
*Managing bricklayers’ wages and weekly payroll
*Tracking site productivity
*Verifying "price work" (piecework) claims
*Ensuring labour costs align with measured progress
Relationship Management
*Coordinating with site teams, suppliers, and subcontractors
*Supporting smooth commercial communication across projects
Your progression path:
*Graduate QS – Mastering take-offs and commercial fundamentals
*Assistant QS – Taking ownership of smaller packages or sites
*Quantity Surveyor – Managing your own multi-million-pound projects
*Senior Surveyor – Strategic commercial leadership and mentoring
As you progress, your salary and benefits scale with your responsibility, including future options such as car allowance or company vehicle.
The Candidate
Education
*Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management (2:1 preferred)
*Strong 2:2 with practical experience considered
*Students at any stage seeking work-based learning are also encouraged to apply
Numerical Accuracy
*Strong attention to detail
*Confidence using spreadsheets
*Comfortable managing payroll calculations accurately
Mindset
*Analytical and detail-oriented
*Practical, "boots on the ground" approach
*Eager to learn in a fast-moving environment
Mobility
*Full UK driving licence (essential)
The Package
Competitive Salary
£25,000 – £30,000 starting salary, reviewed as you achieve progression milestones.
Annual Leave
22 days holiday plus Bank Holidays
+1 extra day per year of service (up to 25 days)
Christmas Shutdown
A full company Christmas closure — guaranteed time to switch off.
Mileage Allowance
All business mileage fully reimbursed.
(Own vehicle required.)

One-to-one mentoring from Senior Commercial Managers
Real-world, practical training beyond classroom learning
Structured Week
Typically four days office-based (commercial management focus) , One Day On Site
