Job Title: Procurement Specialist / Commodity Buyer
Location: Newcastle, UK
Contract Type: 12-month contract
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Procurement Specialist to support the Procurement Lead in executing procurement priorities in line with business goals. This role covers the full supply cycle including request for quotes, negotiation, purchase order placement, and order fulfillment. You will use your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives, and contribute to both short-term initiatives and long-term departmental improvements.
Roles and Responsibilities:
*Negotiate best cost and delivery with suppliers; place and follow up on purchase orders for assigned commodities
*Manage effective working relationships with suppliers for PO execution
*Address problems and schedule changes to ensure on-time delivery
*Update ERP systems to ensure accurate planning
*Develop new solutions under guidance or in a team setting
*Balance tactical execution with strategic initiatives to drive cost and lead time reduction
*Collaborate with senior individuals across the business
*Work with Commodity Buyers on technical and commercial developments to improve product knowledge
*Actively participate in supplier performance reviews
*Contribute to projects as a team member or lead small projects
*Manage end-to-end procurement activities for assigned commodities, applying sourcing policies and interfacing between suppliers and internal teams regarding specifications and budgets
Required Qualifications
*Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
*Experience as a Commodity Buyer in an engineering or manufacturing environment
*Strong technical mindset and attention to detail
*Excellent oral and written communication skills
*Ability to work independently, motivate, and influence others
*Ability to manage multiple complex situations simultaneously
*Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills
Desired Characteristics
*Experience with commodities such as engineered polymers and/or high-grade metals
*Project management, technical, and/or materials experience
*Recognized professional and/or academic qualification (e.g., MCIPS)
*Experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment; sector-specific experience is a plus
