Job Description:
A beautiful private estate in West Berkshire is seeking a Gardener to join their dedicated and experienced garden team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone early in their horticultural career who has a genuine passion for plants, strong plant knowledge, and a solid horticultural background, and who is eager to develop within a supportive and professional environment.
The successful candidate will join a team of five and work under the guidance of highly skilled gardeners. The role would suit a hardworking, enthusiastic, and hands-on individual with a good understanding of plant care, seasonal maintenance, and garden best practices. The ideal candidate will be happy to assist wherever needed and keen to further develop their horticultural skills across a broad range of gardening and estate maintenance tasks. Flexibility and a team-spirited approach are key to success in this role.
Duties will include, but are not limited to, general gardening and grounds maintenance, pruning, plant care, cleaning water features, and clearing gutters. A positive, proactive attitude, a willingness to get stuck in, and a genuine interest in horticulture and plant health are essential.
Working hours are Monday to Friday, 7:45 am to 4:00 pm in winter and 7:45 am to 4:30 pm in summer, with some flexibility required. This is a live-out position, so the candidate must be local to the area or willing to relocate. In addition to the base salary, the client offers a bonus incentive, meaning you will earn an average of between £4,200 to £8,400 extra per annum, with the opportunity for this to be higher with exceptional performance.
DUTIES TO INCLUDE:
*General gardening and grounds maintenance
*Pruning trees, shrubs, and plants
*Cleaning and maintaining water features
*Clearing and cleaning gutters
*Assisting with seasonal tasks such as mulching, leaf clearance, and lawn care
*Supporting senior gardeners with day-to-day estate work
*Operating garden tools and machinery under supervision
*Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation across the grounds
*Ad hoc maintenance tasks as required by the team
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
*Genuine interest in horticulture with practical experience
*Hardworking, reliable, and proactive with a "can-do" attitude
*Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
*Strong attention to detail and pride in work
*A horticultural qualification would be advantageous, but is not essential
*Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
*Must be local to Berkshire or willing to relocate
*Previous experience in a similar role or horticultural studies (desirable but not essential)
*A valid, clean UK driving licence and own vehicle
*Fluent in spoken English and the right to live and work in the UK
*Excellent checkable references
