Barnet Council is seeking an experienced Referral & Assessment Team Manager to join our Children’s Social Care service. This is an excellent opportunity to lead a stable, well-established team within a supportive and forward-thinking borough.

The Role

As Referral & Assessment Team Manager, you will:

Provide strong leadership and day-to-day management of a busy R&A team

Oversee high-quality assessments, decision-making, and threshold management

Support and develop social workers through regular supervision and guidance

Ensure statutory timescales and quality standards are consistently met

Work collaboratively with partner agencies to achieve the best outcomes for children

Working Arrangements

Hybrid role: 2 days per week in the office

Participation in duty rota every 6th week

Competitive rate of £43 per hour

About the Team

This is a stable team with low turnover, supported by experienced senior management and clear practice frameworks. The service values consistency, collaboration, and realistic workloads, allowing managers to focus on quality practice and staff development.

Requirements

Minimum of 3 years’ permanent experience within children’s social care

Extensive prior experience as a Team Manager (Referral & Assessment or similar frontline service)

Strong knowledge of statutory frameworks, safeguarding thresholds, and performance management

Proven ability to lead, motivate, and support social work teams
