Job Description:
A Multi-Trade Operative is responsible for carrying out a wide range of general building and maintenance tasks across domestic projects, including renovations, refurbishments, extensions, and repairs. Working within a small team, the role requires strong practical skills across multiple trades such as carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, and decorating, with the ability to complete jobs to a high standard and within agreed timeframes.
The successful candidate will be reliable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently or alongside others, maintaining excellent workmanship while ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. As the role involves working in customers’ homes, professionalism, good communication skills, and respect for clients’ properties are essential.
Duties and responsibilities
*Carry out a wide range of trade tasks including carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, painting, basic brickwork, and general building works.
*Complete domestic renovation, maintenance, and repair projects to a high standard.
*Undertake kitchen and bathroom installations, including first and second fix works.
*Perform property refurbishments, extensions, and small structural alterations.
*Diagnose and resolve on-site issues efficiently and independently.
*Ensure all work complies with current building regulations and health & safety standards.
*Read and interpret drawings, plans, and job specifications.
*Measure, cut, assemble, and install materials accurately.
*Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment at all times.
*Liaise professionally with homeowners, suppliers, and subcontractors.
*Assist with material procurement and ensure correct use of tools and equipment.
*Work both independently and as part of a small team.
*Manage time effectively to meet project deadlines.
*Conduct snagging and finishing works to ensure high-quality completion.
*Adhere to company procedures and represent the business professionally on-site.
*Report progress, issues, or additional work requirements to the site supervisor or company director.
Experience and qualifications
*Minimum of 5 years experience
*NVQ level 2
*Driving licence
*able to work independently
*understand how to read technical drawings
