We are currently seeking dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs in a dynamic and nurturing educational setting.
This is a highly impactful role where your ability to build trust, provide consistency, and understand behaviour through a trauma-informed lens will be essential.
About the Role
You will be working closely with students who may have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), trauma, or significant emotional challenges. Your role will involve supporting them both academically and emotionally, helping them to regulate, engage, and succeed within the school environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
Build strong, trusting relationships with students
Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
Work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams
Implement individual support plans and interventions
Maintain a calm, consistent, and safe learning environment
Essential Requirements
Proven experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice
Ability to de-escalate challenging behaviours calmly and effectively
Resilient, patient, and emotionally intelligent approach
Experience in schools, PRUs, alternative provisions, or care settings
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Desirable (but not essential)
Team Teach or other behaviour management training
Experience supporting pupils with ADHD, ASD, or attachment difficulties
Background in youth work, mentoring, or social care
What We’re Looking For
This role is not just about classroom support - it’s about consistency, empathy, and understanding the "why" behind behaviour. We are looking for individuals who can remain calm under pressure, build meaningful relationships, and genuinely make a difference to vulnerable young people.
If you have the experience, resilience, and passion to support young people with SEMH needs, we would love to hear from you.
