Job Description:
Asset Operations & Trading Analyst
We are a UK-licensed non-domestic electricity and gas supplier. Supporting customers with innovative energy solutions across supply, generation, and CHP optimisation. Our work blends hands-on operation of real assets with data-driven optimisation and trading technology to maximise value and improve resilience for businesses and energy systems.
Role Purpose
We are looking for an Asset Operations & Trading Analyst to sit at the heart of our CHP operations and trading performance. This role is responsible for coordinating delivery of heat and CO with on-site asset operators, while helping to optimise commercial outcomes across electricity and gas trading.
The role exists to reduce operational and commercial friction: ensuring our assets run reliably, our delivery commitments are met, and our trading decisions are continuously monitored, understood, and improved. The employee will develop better processes, monitoring tools, and performance insights, connecting real-world asset constraints to trading and optimisation decisions. This position sits across the asset operations and trading functions, with strong engagement in data and performance analytics, and close collaboration with optimisation and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
*Coordinate CHP Operational Delivery (Heat + CO)
*Act as a primary operational point of contact between us and CHP site operators
*Coordinate day-to-day delivery of heat and CO commitments, ensuring operational priorities are understood and met
*Track operational constraints, outages, and shifting site requirements, and ensure these are reflected in trading/dispatch decisions
*Support timely resolution of operational issues that impact commercial delivery or trading performance
2. Monitor and Improve Trading Performance
*Monitor trading outcomes for CHP assets (electricity and gas positions, dispatch decisions, opportunity capture)
*Investigate performance deviations (e.g., missed runs, unexpected costs, constraint-driven underperformance)
*Create repeatable processes to identify, explain, and reduce value leakage in trading and dispatch
*Support continuous improvement of trading processes through structured analysis and feedback loops.
3. Build Systems and Processes for Operational + Commercial Insight
*Develop monitoring dashboards, KPI reporting, and automated checks that improve operational awareness and trading accountability
*Improve how operational events and decisions are logged, tracked, and reviewed (from ad-hoc to systematic)
4. Engage Deeply with Data and Optimisation
*Work directly with operational, market, and optimisation datasets to support analysis and decision-making
*Validate inputs/outputs used in trading processes, and help identify data quality or modelling gaps
*Translate operational realities (site constraints, heat demand behaviour, CO requirements) into usable analytical formats
*Collaborate with optimisation engineers to improve how site needs and risks are represented in dispatch and trading logic
What We’re Looking For
*Strong analytical capability: able to diagnose performance issues from messy operational and commercial signals
*Comfortable working with data (spreadsheets, SQL, Python, dashboards, or similar tooling)
*Ability to work closely with external operators and internal stakeholders, building trust and operational rhythm
*Commercial mindset: understands how operational decisions impact trading outcomes and vice versa
*Highly organised and proactive (ie: you naturally build process where it doesn’t exist.)
*Interest in energy markets, CHP operations, and real-world optimisation problems
Nice to Have
*1–3 years in an analyst role in trading, operations, energy, logistics, or industrial systems
*Experience with CHP assets, heat networks, industrial energy users, or flexibility markets
*Familiarity with UK electricity and gas markets (imbalance, settlement, nominations, trading timelines)
*Experience building dashboards or monitoring tools
*Exposure to incident management, operational run-books, or continuous improvement frameworks
What You’ll Get
*A highly owned role at the centre of real asset operations and trading outcomes
*The opportunity to turn manual, reactive processes into well-instrumented systems
*Close collaboration with asset operators, traders, and optimisation engineers with visible impact
*A platform to build deep expertise in CHP operations, energy market performance, and operational analytics
