Mechanical Design EngineerLocation: West Yorkshire
Role OverviewA leading bespoke lighting manufacturer is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in West Yorkshire. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and optimising custom lighting products, transforming creative concepts into practical, manufacturable solutions. This is a hands-on engineering role requiring both technical skill and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities*Develop mechanical designs for bespoke lighting systems from concept through to production
*Prepare and interpret technical drawings, CAD models, and schematics
*Collaborate with electrical engineers and workshop teams to ensure designs are manufacturable
*Support small-scale prototyping, testing, and design refinement
*Specify materials, components, and manufacturing processes
*Conduct mechanical calculations, tolerance analysis, and stress assessments where required
*Provide technical guidance to production teams, including assembly instructions and quality standards
*Maintain accurate documentation of design changes, test results, and product specifications
Essential Skills & Experience*HNC, HND, or degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
*Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
*Strong mechanical design experience, including sheet metal, fabrication, and assembly considerations
*Ability to read and produce detailed engineering drawings
*Understanding of manufacturing processes and materials
*Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
*Effective communication skills and a collaborative approach
Desirable Skills*Experience in lighting, architectural, or bespoke product design
*Knowledge of low-voltage systems and basic electrical considerations for mechanical components
*Experience with small-scale prototyping and workshop fabrication
*Familiarity with quality standards and product testing
