Market 36 Recruitment are delighted to be supporting Essex County Council (ECC) in the recruitment of a Rent Recovery Officer on behalf of Basildon Council.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy Revenues and Benefits Service, responsible for maximising income to the Council while supporting tenancy sustainment across the borough.
Following an initial training period, the role will offer hybrid working, with a minimum of 3 days per week onsite.
The Role:
You will be responsible for the collection and recovery of council rent accounts, including secure, temporary, and use and occupation tenancies. You will ensure all work is completed accurately and in line with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
*Managing your own caseload independently to maximise income while supporting residents
*Ensuring all recovery actions comply with housing law and court protocols
*Applying appropriate collection methods and enforcement action based on individual circumstances
*Preparing witness statements and eviction-related documentation
*Liaising with courts, police, and enforcement agents regarding rent recovery and evictions
*Maintaining accurate financial and personal records
*Identifying and reporting any suspected fraud
Requirements:
*Demonstrable experience in rent recovery, debt collection, or a similar environment
*Strong communication and interpersonal skills with experience dealing with the public
*Experience handling and interpreting financial and personal data accurately
*Knowledge of Welfare Benefits legislation
*Understanding of housing law and recovery processes
*Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle with business use insurance
*Knowledge of the local borough is desirable
*Rents and recovery experience is essential
*Ability to work onsite a minimum of 3 days per week, with hybrid working available following the initial training period
