Job Description:
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Environmental Health (Port Health) Officer to join its Neighbourhoods & Housing Directorate within the Licensing & Public Protection service.
Location: Georges Pierhead, City Centre, Liverpool, L3 1DD (Hybrid Working)
Rate: £34.22 per hour
Contract: 6 Months+
The Role
Working under the direction of the Public Health Team Leader, you will support the delivery of statutory Port Health functions and contribute to high-quality service performance.
Key duties include:
*Carrying out official controls on imported food, products, and consignments at the Border Control Post
*Inspecting vessels, cargo, and facilities to ensure compliance with legislation
*Investigating complaints and enforcing Port Health regulations where necessary
*Preparing and serving statutory notices, reports, and legal documentation
*Supporting sampling programmes and undertaking product sampling
*Providing technical advice and guidance to colleagues and stakeholders
*Representing the service at meetings, tribunals, and external events
*Promoting the Port Health Service through effective communication and engagement
You may also be required to work outside normal hours where service demands require.
About You:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
*A degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Health
*Registration with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (or equivalent)
*Strong knowledge of environmental health legislation and enforcement practices
*Experience working under pressure and managing changing priorities
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
*The ability to work independently and make sound decisions
Desirable:
*Experience in port health or imported food controls
*Knowledge of relevant European legislation
*Meat inspection experience or training
*Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
